What is the Canoe Award?
The Whitewater award is designed to give you all the skills you need to be a confident, stylish and safe paddler on Class 2(3). It was formerly known as the 3* Whitewater award.
Your coach is most likely to be the man you see pictured here; Owner and Head Coach Oli Kershaw
Oli has paddled canoes since he was a child. He took his passion for whitewater and threw his knowledge into canoeing down rivers. Over years, Oli has dialled in the techniques required to take a canoe in pretty much any water environment imaginable.
Oli's open water experience came from hundreds of hours coaching on Windermere, England's biggest lake. Launching from an exposed bank meant quickly learning how to control any canoe in any wind.
These days, you can find Oli coaching these skills, or combining them to facilitate open canoe expeditions with the UK and further afield, whether it's the River Wye, the Great Glen or the south of France.
North Wales offers a huge variety in venues to use across the week. We will use a multitude of both open water and moving water venues and our environment will progress with our skill level. Some of our common open water venues are: Llyn Padarn, Llyn Tegid, Llynau Mymbyr. Some of our more common moving water venues are the rivers: Dee, Tryweryn, Conwy and Llugwy.
